Why Our Furniture Takes Time to Reach You

Slow furniture, made right

Unlike mass-produced particle-board furniture shipped from mega-warehouses, every Kumo piece is solid wood — crafted by experienced artisans in a small-batch factory. This takes longer. We think it’s worth it.

Step 01
Sourced at the Origin

We source wood directly from the regions where it grows best — North American walnut, European oak, sustainable plantations. By going to the source instead of buying through middlemen, we control quality from the very first cut.

Step 02
Factory-Direct Production

We work directly with our own factory — no brokers, no middlemen. This means we can oversee every step, but it also means production runs on a schedule, not instantaneously. Each batch is planned and queued.

Step 03
Handcrafted, Not Stamped Out

A typical batch of 20–30 solid wood pieces takes up to 3 months to complete. Every piece is hand-sanded through multiple grit levels to achieve the smooth, warm finish that machine-sanding can’t replicate. This is furniture made by people, not robots.

Step 04
Open, Inspect, Repair, Repack

Before any piece leaves our facility, it is opened from packaging, carefully inspected and evaluated, repaired if needed, then re-packed with fresh protective materials. This second look catches issues that slip past the production line.

Step 05
Shipped by Sea

We ship by ocean container to keep costs down and pass the savings to you as free shipping. This adds 45–60 days of transit, but it means a $700 chair doesn’t become a $1,200 chair.

“We could ship faster by cutting corners. We’d rather not.”

What makes the wait worth it

Every extra day in our process exists for a reason.

Solid Wood, Not Veneer

Every Kumo piece is built from solid hardwood — no particle board, no MDF, no veneer over cheap substrate. Solid wood needs time to acclimate, be properly dried, and be worked with care to avoid cracking and warping.

Small-Batch Scheduling

Our factory produces in batches of 20–30 pieces at a time. A full production cycle — from raw lumber to finished, packed product — takes about 3 months. Your order enters the queue and gets built in sequence.

Hand-Sanded Finish

Machines can sand wood flat. But the smooth, warm-to-the-touch finish on a Kumo piece comes from progressive hand-sanding — moving through multiple grit levels by feel, not by timer. It’s slower. You can feel the difference.

Double Inspection

Each finished piece is unpacked, inspected, and evaluated before it’s allowed to ship. If anything needs repair — a scratch, a loose joint, an uneven edge — it’s fixed on the spot, then carefully repacked with fresh materials.

Sea Freight, Not Air

Shipping a bookcase by air can cost more than the furniture itself. We ship by sea container to keep your price fair. The trade-off is 45–60 days of transit time — but free shipping on a $1,500 piece makes that wait worthwhile.

Direct Factory Support

When you contact us with an issue, you’re not going through a call center that forwards tickets to nowhere. Our after-sales team works directly with the factory. We can assess, repair, and resolve almost any product issue.

Your issue goes straight
to the people who built it.

After-Sales That Actually Solves Problems

We know buying furniture online takes trust — especially when it arrives weeks after purchase. That’s why our after-sales team connects you directly with the factory that made your piece.

No ticket queues. No third-party repair referrals. The people who built your furniture are the same people who fix it.

  • Structural damage? Factory assessment and repair.
  • Finish issue? We can refinish and return.
